Happy 'meant to be' wedding day!

Harriet and Sam got in touch with me in early June about booking in an engagement shoot, sadly they were one of the many couples who have had to postpone and reschedule their big day due to the dreaded covid-19 global pandemic. They are parents to two young children and although having been engaged for years, never took the time to have some professional photos taken.

We got talking and decided to have the shoot on their would be wedding day which I just loved, as what a way to turn a negative into a positive. I always like to ask my clients about locations rather than just choosing myself and different places hold memories for different people, Harriet was set on doing it on the beach where many of their happiest times have been, which was Summerleaze beach in Bude.

I had a quick google, and I soon fell in love with this beach too, it had everything on my tick list for an epic sunset shoot, a breakwater, golden sand, grassy dunes and it was at low tide for that evening.

Sam, like many grooms to be, well men in general actually, was feeling really apprehensive before the shoot, not being used to being centre of attention. So, Harriet did the mature thing and made him have a couple of glasses of whiskey to loosen up before hand which I just thought was hilarious.

It obviously worked because these two were every photographers dream, we had discussed in our pre shoot consultation what kind of photographs they were looking for, which was, relaxed, easy going and natural candid moments - which is absolutely up my street.

They (and I) had such a good time, the walking into the water shots are particularly funny, as what Harriet didn't tell me was that her and Sam are both 6ft, and me being just over 5ft made it great fun trying to get flattering angles of them, so I wacked out my trusty Ikea stool to get the shots - what I didn't think about though, was that the stool would sink into the wet sand, causing me to fall off balance and essentially into the sea. I lost one of my favourite flip flops to the ocean trying to save my camera, but the magic created after definitely softened the blow. I literally thought Harriet was going to die laughing, but like any good tog, I got the shot - maybe I was a paparazzi in a past life?

I thought this shoot was such a good way to mark an important date in their lives, and it definitely wasn't one to forget. If you are newly or 'oldly' engaged and want to book a shoot in, then drop me a message.

Ellie x

P.S If anyone sees a haviana flip flop making its way out into the pacific, it's mine, and I'd like it back.
